Acala Farms Logo and Packaging

Acala Farms

Specs

Custom typography, two-color logo and one seal design in multiple colors to represent different flavors. Label design and hang tags for a set of eight 375mL bottles of oil, and their smaller 5oz. bottle sampler. Collaborated with Shu Shu Design for the color palette, flavor naming and tagline.

The Problem

Acala Farms is a brand new food company in need of an identity to help launch their product into markets nation-wide. They wanted to introduce their cooking oils as the fun, flavorful alternative to other oils on the market.

The Solution

Acala Farms produces flavored oil made from cotton that's grown in the mountainous deserts of the Southwest United States. So, bam! Their logo is an oil droplet inside a friendly, modern-looking symbol of a cotton blossom. I took the idea a step further by creating custom type for the name "ACALA." The wideset "A"s imitate the mountain peaks that surround the cotton fields, with arched crossbars mimicking the rounded tops of the cotton blossoms. Although it is a subtle touch, this attention to detail helps blend the concept and the feel of the letters seemlessly with the mark above it.

I decided to make their unique location the focus of their packaging by incorporating mountains and rows of cotton into the seal. The colors selected for the labels are based on the natural colors of the ingredients featured in each blend.

The Result

Once Acala Farms packaging was complete, they soft launched their product at a food festival in New Mexico and have continued to exhibit their flavorful oils at food shows and festivals across the country. After eight months of press coverage, over 400 fans on Facebook and two more flavors added to their lineup, they are ready to debut their product nationwide.
